If the thought of spotting tigers and rhinos in tropical rainforests doesn't excite you enough, what about the thought of doing it elephant backed?

Trekking Nepal

Nepal’s first national park Royal Chitwan National park was originally set aside as a rhino sanctuary, and has become a huge success story. It is now home to over a ¼ of the worlds population of rhinos. But think again if you think that is the only reason for animal enthusiasts to get excited. Tigers, wild elephants, gaur (Indian bison), over 500 bird species ( Chitwan is Nepals most important bird sanctuary), crocodiles, over 150 species of butterflies. Altogether there are 56 mamalian species incuding; sloth bear,  leopard, monkies, langur and four kinds of deer. Chitwan National park surely houses enough wild species to whet the appetite of any animal enthusiast.

During your time you will see the park through a variety of methods, the most popular being from the back of an elephant! Elephants are the best way of observing rhinos, wild boar, tigers and sloth bears without scaring them off as their scent masks your own.  There is also some degree of comfort experienced when a tiger comes into view!

Guided walking is the best way to observe intricacies of the parks wildlife, especially the parks prolific birdlife. The Chitwan region is an important stopover spot for migratory species in December and March, as well as being home to many year-round residents - parakeets, Indian rollers, paradise flycatchers, kingfishers, hornbills, cranes, amongst hundreds of others. Walking  also allows you to appreciate the smaller attractions of the jungle at your own pace: orchids, strangler figs, towering termite mounds, tiger scratchings. Experienced guides insist the best animal sightings are by foot.

Included in your safari package you will have a guided trek, an elephant backed trek, a canoe trip, a visit to an elephant breeding centre, a museum tour, and an elephant bathing session.

“...the best part? i would have to say waking up in the morning to go down to the river and hop on an elephants back while she waded around and squirted water on me from her trunk. Then disembarking and helping scrub her down with pumace while she lay there basking in the sun and the cool river water was hands down one of the most amazing experiences of my life…”
